A hemp cigarette is what it sounds like: a cigarette rolled from hemp flower instead of tobacco. No tobacco leaf, no nicotine. If you have seen the words "CBD cigarettes," "hemp smokes," or "herbal cigarettes" and wondered what is actually inside one and how it is different, this is the plain version.
What a hemp cigarette actually is
A hemp cigarette is hemp flower, rolled in paper with a filter, in the same shape and format as a traditional cigarette. Hemp is the same plant that CBD comes from, grown to be naturally low in THC. The flower is rich in CBD (cannabidiol) and other compounds that occur naturally in the plant, with only trace amounts of THC.
Two things define it: there is no nicotine, and there is no tobacco. A Full Moons cigarette is 0.8 grams of hemp flower, twenty to a pack. It is not a vape, an oil, or an edible. It is hemp flower you light, the way you would light a cigarette.
Hemp cigarettes vs. tobacco cigarettes
The clearest way to understand a hemp cigarette is by what is, and is not, inside it compared with a tobacco cigarette.
- Tobacco cigarette: tobacco leaf plus nicotine.
- Hemp cigarette: hemp flower, with no tobacco and no nicotine.
That is the practical difference: a tobacco cigarette contains nicotine and tobacco; a hemp cigarette contains neither. As with anything you light and inhale, smoke is still smoke, which is why we publish lab results and keep the standard disclaimer at the bottom of this page rather than make claims about health.
Hemp cigarettes vs. CBD cigarettes: the same thing
"Hemp cigarette," "CBD cigarette," and "hemp smoke" are different names for the same product: a cigarette made from hemp flower. The naming simply varies from one brand or region to the next. Full Moons calls them hemp cigarettes because that is what they are.
Will a hemp cigarette get you high?
No. Hemp is defined by its low THC. Under federal law, hemp contains no more than 0.3 percent delta-9 THC by dry weight, far below the level that would be intoxicating. A hemp cigarette is not a cannabis cigarette and is not meant to produce a high. If you want to read the exact numbers for a given batch, our lab results are public.
Are hemp cigarettes legal?
At the federal level, hemp containing no more than 0.3 percent delta-9 THC by dry weight is legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. Individual states can be stricter, so availability varies by state. Full Moons does not ship to California, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Tennessee, or Utah.
Hemp regulation is also changing at the federal level, so the simplest answer is to check the current picture before you order. We keep it up to date on our Compliance page.
