Full Moons Club · The field guide

Hemp cigarettes, explained.

One ingredient. No nicotine, no tobacco, and nothing standing in for either. Here is what is actually inside one, and how it sits next to everything else people are smoking now.

The short answer

A hemp cigarette is a cigarette rolled from hemp flower instead of tobacco. It contains no nicotine and no tobacco. Full Moons is 0.8g of sun-grown hemp flower per cigarette, twenty to a pack, with no shake, no stems and no fillers. It is federally legal industrial hemp containing less than 0.4mg delta 9 THC per serving, within the hemp standard established by the 2018 Farm Bill, and it is not intoxicating.

01

A cigarette, rolled from hemp instead of tobacco.

The format is the one you already know. Paper, filter, twenty to a pack. What changes is the plant inside it.

Hemp and marijuana are the same species. The difference is chemistry, not botany. Hemp is bred to produce cannabidiol rather than THC, which is why a hemp cigarette burns and draws like a cigarette without doing what a joint does.

People also call these CBD cigarettes, hemp smokes, or herbal cigarettes. Herbal cigarette is the loosest of the three, because it covers anything rolled from plant material, including blends with no hemp in them at all.

We call ours a cigarette, because that is what it is. We are not going to call it something softer to make it easier to sell.

02

What is inside one.

  • Sun-grown hemp flower

0.8g of it, rolled into every cigarette. Flower, not trim. Grown outdoors in Virginia and North Carolina, rolled in Virginia.

  • No shake, no stems

Shake is the loose material that falls to the bottom of the bin. Stems are the woody parts. Plenty of the category rolls both. We do not.

  • No fillers

No mullein, no sage, no peppermint leaf, nothing bulking out the blend. One ingredient, start to finish.

  • Twenty to a pack

Ten packs to a carton. The unit language never changes on us.

03

No nicotine. No tobacco. Never was.

Not reduced. Not stripped out. Not a synthetic replacement. Hemp flower is the whole of what you are lighting, and nicotine was never part of the recipe to begin with.

We do not use the phrase tobacco-free, because it is vague and it implies something was removed. There is no tobacco and there is no nicotine. That is a fact about the product, not a claim about you.

What we are not going to tell you is what that does for you. Full Moons is not a cessation product, it is not medicine, and we make no health claim of any kind. We are a cigarette company. We will keep saying so.

04

It does not get you high.

This is the question we get most, so here is the plain version. Full Moons is federally legal industrial hemp containing less than 0.4mg delta 9 THC per serving, within the hemp standard established by the 2018 Farm Bill. It is not intoxicating.

Every batch is lab tested, and we publish the certificate of analysis for each one. They are published in full, so you can read the number rather than take our word for it.

Two practical notes. Hemp smoke smells like cannabis to most people, because it is the same plant family. And hemp products can register on a drug test, because tests look for cannabinoid metabolites and cannot tell where they came from. If you are tested for work, know that going in.

Worth saying plainly

Smoking anything means inhaling combustion products. Hemp is not tobacco and it carries no nicotine, and that is the whole of what we will tell you. Anyone selling you a smoke as a health decision is selling you something else.

06

What people are smoking instead.

If you are looking at cigarettes without nicotine, these are the four things you are choosing between. Here is the honest shape of each one.

  • Hemp cigarettes

Hemp flower, no nicotine, no tobacco. Keeps the format, the paper and the hand. Smells like cannabis. Quality varies enormously across the category, mostly depending on whether the brand rolls flower or trim.

  • Vapes and pods

A device, a charger and a pod. Most contain nicotine, often at high concentrations. Federal shipping rules under the PACT Act make buying them online genuinely difficult. Nothing about the ritual survives.

  • Nicotine pouches

Nicotine without smoke. No flame, no hands, no exhale. If what you want is the nicotine, these deliver it. If what you want is the cigarette, they do not replace it.

  • Herbal blends

Mullein, damiana, mint, marshmallow leaf. Usually no hemp, usually no nicotine. The burn is rougher and the blends are rarely lab tested. Read the ingredient list before you buy, because there is often more in there than the front of the pack suggests.

07

Where it actually fits.

Most of the writing about this category assumes you are trying to stop something. We are not going to assume that.

The pack goes where a pack goes. On a balcony at a party, in the hand of somebody who does not smoke on a Tuesday but does on a Saturday, passed around a table at two in the morning. In a bag on a beach. In a coat pocket at a wedding.

It is one ingredient and it comes in plain, scent-free packaging with no logos on the box and no mention of hemp on the label. Nothing about it needs an explanation you would be embarrassed to give.

How it is grown.

A pack of Full Moons resting in a basket of star fruit, bananas, onion and fennel outdoors
Sun-grown. Virginia and North Carolina.

Sun-grown outdoors in Virginia and North Carolina. Rolled in Virginia. Sun-grown means the plant runs on daylight and weather rather than a light cycle in a warehouse, which is slower and less controllable and produces flower that tastes like where it came from.

There is a second reason we grow it, and it has nothing to do with flavour.

Hemp is a phytoremediator. The roots pull heavy metals out of contaminated soil and put oxygen and minerals back into it. The supply chain we are working to replace is the one that most needs remediating.

So the plant does two jobs. One of them you can taste. The other one stays in the dirt, long after the pack is finished.

09

How to choose a hemp cigarette.

Six things worth checking before you decide, on us or on anyone else.

  • Flower or trim

Ask what is actually rolled inside. Flower costs more and smokes better. Trim, shake and stems are cheaper and harsher, and most brands will not tell you which one you are getting unless you ask.

  • The ingredient list

A lot of this category blends hemp with mullein, sage or peppermint leaf to cut cost or soften the burn. That is a legitimate choice, but you should know it is happening. Count the ingredients on the pack.

  • A published lab test, per batch

Not one test from two years ago. A certificate of analysis for the batch in your hand, with a batch number you can match to the pack.

  • Where it was grown

Hemp pulls what is in the soil up into the plant. That is useful for the ground and it means you want to know the ground. A named region beats a vague country of origin.

  • What the brand claims

If a hemp brand tells you its cigarettes treat anything, help with cravings, or work as a way to quit, that is not a product feature. It is a compliance problem, and it tells you something about how carefully the rest of the operation is run.

  • Whether they will ship to you

State law keeps every brand in this category out of a list of states, and the lists differ. Check it first.

10

Reading a lab test.

A certificate of analysis is a document from an independent lab describing what is in a specific batch. Four things to look at.

The batch number. It should match the pack you are holding. A COA for a different batch tells you nothing about yours.

The date. Recent, and after the harvest it describes.

The cannabinoid panel. Delta 9 THC and total THC, which are different numbers. Total THC is the one federal law is moving toward.

The contaminant panel. Heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, microbials. Because hemp is a phytoremediator, the heavy metals line matters more here than it would for most crops.

A note on Cooled Blend

Cooled Blend is the same sun-grown hemp flower with a menthol style finish. Same fill weight, same testing, same pack count. If you smoked menthol before, that is the closer of the two.

11 · Questions

Questions people actually ask.

What is a hemp cigarette? +

A cigarette rolled from hemp flower instead of tobacco. It contains no nicotine and no tobacco. Full Moons is 0.8g of sun-grown hemp flower per cigarette, twenty to a pack, with no shake, no stems and no fillers.

Do hemp cigarettes contain nicotine? +

Ours contain none, and never did. Nicotine was not removed, it was never in the recipe. Check any other brand individually, because some herbal blends are not nicotine free.

Will a hemp cigarette get me high? +

No. Full Moons is federally legal industrial hemp containing less than 0.4mg delta 9 THC per serving, within the hemp standard established by the 2018 Farm Bill. It is not intoxicating. Every batch is lab tested and the certificate of analysis is published.

Are hemp cigarettes legal? +

Federally, yes, under the 2018 Farm Bill standard. State law is a different question and it changes. A short list of states keeps us out, and the current list lives on our shipping and compliance pages so it always matches what happens at checkout.

Is Full Moons a way to quit smoking? +

No. Full Moons is a cigarette company and we will never sell it as anything else. We make no medical claim of any kind, and we are not here to talk you out of anything. Choose better, don't quit.

What does a hemp cigarette taste like? +

Earthy, floral, slightly citrus. It draws smooth and clean. Cooled Blend finishes cooler, closer to a menthol.

Will it show up on a drug test? +

It can. Drug tests look for cannabinoid metabolites and cannot distinguish where they came from. If you are tested for work, take that into account.

How does it arrive? +

In plain, scent-free packaging, with no logos on the box and no mention of hemp on the label. In-stock items ship in 1 to 3 business days. Pre-order items ship as soon as they are available.

Do I have to be 21? +

Yes. Full Moons Club is for adults 21 and over. We verify age at the entrance to the site, and some states require an adult signature on delivery.

The position

Smoke less. Smoke better.

We are not going to tell you to stop, and we are not going to tell you this is good for you. What we will do is tell you exactly what is inside the paper, publish the test for every batch, and let you make the call yourself.

That is the whole of the argument. Know what you are lighting.
