9 things to know about hemp cigarettes

Most of what is written about this category is written to sell you something. This is not that. Drug tests, smell, state law, price, and what is actually rolled inside the paper.

What is actually inside one

Short answer

Hemp flower, or hemp flower blended with cheaper plant material. The pack rarely tells you which, so it is worth asking.

This is the single biggest quality difference in the category and almost nobody talks about it. Flower is the top of the plant. Trim, shake and stems are what is left over. Trim is cheaper, harsher, and very common.

A lot of brands also blend hemp with mullein, sage or peppermint leaf to cut cost or soften the burn. That is a legitimate choice, but you should know it is happening before you decide. Count the ingredients on the pack.

Full Moons is one ingredient. Sun-grown hemp flower, 0.8g a cigarette, no shake, no stems, no fillers.

Nicotine, and the word tobacco-free

Short answer

Ours has none, and never did. But tobacco-free does not automatically mean nicotine-free, so read the label.

Tobacco-free is a vague phrase and it gets used loosely across the category. It tells you a plant is absent. It does not tell you a compound is absent, and some herbal products do contain added nicotine.

What you want on a label is both words. No tobacco, no nicotine. Full Moons has neither, and neither was removed from anything. Hemp flower is the whole of what you are lighting.

We are a cigarette company and we are not a cessation product. We make no health claim of any kind, and if a brand in this category tells you its cigarettes help with cravings, that is not a feature, it is a compliance problem.

Whether it gets you high

Short answer

No. Full Moons is federally legal industrial hemp containing less than 0.4mg delta 9 THC per serving, within the hemp standard established by the 2018 Farm Bill. It is not intoxicating.

Hemp and marijuana are the same species. The difference is chemistry, not botany. Hemp is bred for cannabidiol rather than THC, which is why it burns and draws like a cigarette without doing what a joint does.

Every batch is lab tested and the certificate of analysis is published, so you can check the number rather than take our word for it. Read the current tests.

Drug tests

Short answer

It can show up. Drug tests look for cannabinoid metabolites and cannot tell where they came from.

This is the answer most of the category buries, and it should be near the top. A standard screen is not looking for intoxication. It is looking for metabolites, and hemp produces them.

Not intoxicating and not detectable are two different claims. We will only make the first one.

If you are tested for work, know that going in.

The smell

Short answer

It smells like cannabis to most people, because it is the same plant family.

Worth planning for. Lighting one on a balcony reads as cannabis to a neighbour, whatever the lab test says. Some people like that. Some people would rather it did not.

The unlit pack is a different question. Full Moons ships and stores in plain, scent-free packaging, with no logos on the box and no mention of hemp on the label.

The taste and the burn

Short answer

Earthy, floral, slightly citrus. It draws smooth and clean, and it burns a little faster than tobacco.

Hemp flower is lighter and less dense than cured tobacco, so it goes quicker. That is normal and it is not a defect. A tightly packed cigarette burns more evenly than a loosely packed one, which is another reason fill quality matters.

If you smoked menthol before, start with the cooled version rather than the original.

On Cooled Blend

Same sun-grown hemp flower, same fill weight, same testing, with a menthol style finish. Twenty to a pack like everything else we make.

State law, and where nobody can ship

Short answer

Federally legal, but a list of states blocks smokable hemp. The lists differ by brand, so check first.

The 2018 Farm Bill made hemp federally legal. It did not stop individual states from writing their own rules, and several have banned smokable hemp specifically rather than hemp in general.

Any brand worth trusting enforces this at checkout rather than leaving it to you. A site that will happily take an order into a state that prohibits the product tells you how the rest of the operation is run.

Federal law is also moving. A change to how THC is measured takes effect in late 2026, and it will reshape what is sold in this category. Our current state list is here, and it changes the same day the law does.

Price, and what a carton actually saves

Short answer

Expect roughly 15 to 20 dollars a pack across the category. Cartons cut the per-pack price meaningfully.

Cheap packs in this category are almost always cheap because of what is inside them. Trim and filler cost less than flower, and the saving comes back to you as a harsher smoke.

The unit language is worth knowing, because brands are inconsistent about it. A pack is twenty cigarettes. A carton is ten packs.

How it ships

Short answer

Plain, scent-free packaging. In-stock items ship in 1 to 3 business days. You have to be 21.

No logos on the box, no mention of hemp on the label. Pre-order items ship as soon as they are available.

Age is verified at the entrance to the site, and depending on where you live an adult signature may be required at delivery. That is not us being cautious for the sake of it. It is what keeps a brand in this category able to operate.
